This Fall is About Letting Go

The theme for this fall is letting go - can you feel it? Are you being forced to let go of something? Or someone? Some ideal? Are you holding onto it so tight, or are you opening your hand and releasing it?

Right now, Venus is close to the South Node in the sign of Virgo, which means that, specifically, this fall - this season - it’s about letting go of perfection. Perfection in relationships. In the way you show up. In the way you budget your time. Your money. Your expectations of yourself. Of others.

Archetypally, Venus represents love, yes, but also unity, harmony and beauty and, currently, it’s close to the South Node, which is associated with release and letting go. (The nodes are the two points in space where the Moon’s orbit around Earth intersects with the ecliptic). Venus near the South Node can therefore mean a decrease when it comes to love, unity, harmony and beauty. In the exacting, detail-oriented earth sign of Virgo, there’s a lessening of perfectionism. Additionally, Venus is in fall in Virgo, meaning that those Venusian qualities (love, unity, harmony, beauty) are less accessible. Venus is less able to accomplish its goals in Virgo.

There is something so quintessentially Fall about Venus near the South Node during Libra Season - the sign that heralds Fall. As the leaves are starting to fall and the weather is starting to shift, there is a natural lessening in the air. Letting go of the long summer days and transitioning to a time that beckons for shelter and warmth. For going inward.

And it makes me think that, though Venus is undergoing some exfoliation, though she is less adept in Virgo, I wonder if those Venusian qualities are apparent in different ways. I wonder if Venus shows up in the stark beauty of bare tree limbs or the warmth of a fireplace on a chilly evening.

Perhaps fittingly, Venus will end her serious sojourn through Virgo by opposing Saturn - planet of maturity, hard work, and boundaries - in the last degrees of Pisces. A solemn, sobering note. What lessons will Venus have learned before she transitions to her domicile of Libra on October 13?

Personally, I’m observing where perfectionism is getting in the way and what’s asking to be pruned from my life at this time. And, I’m looking for Venus in unexpected places because I know she’s not showing up in typical fashion. It’s a worthwhile exercise, I think, to actively look for beauty where you least expect to find it.
